Sandwich arrest stirs debate over eating in stores – POLL

HONOLULU — It happens daily in supermarket and convenience stores nationwide — digging into a bag of chips while waiting in line, sampling a couple of grapes in the produce section, opening a bottle of milk to appease a crying child.

The highly-publicized story of a pregnant Honolulu mom who was arrested last week with her husband after she ate a sandwich in a Safeway store and forgot to pay, leading to the couple’s 2-year-old daughter being taken away by Child Welfare Services, has sparked a national debate on the issue.

HP insiders are saying it will shut down failed WebOS

28 October, 2011

HP will kill off WebOS, its mobile operating system, the Guardian reports, citing internal HP sources.

WebOS staff will either be moved to a different division within HP or let go, the Guardian reports. There are currently about 500 people working on WebOS, but several high-level members of the division have recently left.

HP bought Palm in 2010 for $1.2 billion in order to acquire the WebOS platform. After disappointing sales from its TouchPad tablet, HP decided to stop production of all WebOS-based hardware.

Most people speculated that HP would try to sell Palm off, but the Guardians sources seem to think the entire division will be killed off instead.
